James M. “Fat Boy” Spruell, 69, of Hamburg, died Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at the Ashley County Medical Center in Crossett. Mr. Spruell was a native of Monroe, Louisiana; a resident of the Hamburg and Crossett area since 1983 and a former resident of Olla, Louisiana. He was a crane superintendent offshore. He was a member of the Cloverdale Assembly of God Church and a member of the Hollis Deer Camp for many years.
He is preceded in death by a son, James C. Spruell in 2007; a daughter, Katherine Lynn Spruell in 2009; two grandchildren, Jonathan Spruell and Megan Delancy; his parents, James Spruell, Sr. & Gladys Lee Spruell; two brothers, Roy Lee Spruell and Jerry Spruell.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Glenda Wilson Spruell of Hamburg; a son, Kevin Spruell and wife, Dee Dee, of Hamburg; three daughters, Jaime Hogan and husband, Richard, of Hamburg, Becky Poole and Renea Langley both of Olla, Louisiana; three brothers, Clifford Spruell and Ricky Spruell both of Fountain Hill and Warren Spruell of Kelly, Louisiana; three sisters, Henrietta Platzer of Tullos, Louisiana, Janelle Boyette of Olla, Louisiana and Joann Lasyone of West Monroe, Louisiana; 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 2 p.m., Saturday, September 19, 2015 at the Cloverdale Assembly of God Church with Bro. John Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Flat Creek Cemetery.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Friday at the church.
