Merle Pennington Murphy, 94, of Hamburg, died Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. Mrs. Murphy was a native of the Milo Community outside of Hamburg. She lived in Fort Worth and Odessa, Texas for 24 years, having moved back to the Milo Community in 1974. She graduated from Hamburg High School in 1941 and she was a homemaker. She was a Charter Member of the Trinity Free Will Baptist Church and she loved her church family. Her family was her life. She enjoyed quilting, working in her flowers and raising vegetables.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Howard “Pete” Murphy in 2008; her parents, McClellan & Annie Lou Howard Pennington; four brothers, Don, Elton, M.C. and Conrad Pennington; two sisters, Macel Rodgers and Erma Lou Sharp; two brothers-in-law, Austin Rodgers and Jack Sharp and two sisters-in-law, Bobbie Pennington and Joyce Pennington.
She is survived by two daughters, Becky Powell of Diana, Texas and Shirley Fenn and husband, Melvin, of Alvarado, Texas; a brother, Bruce Pennington and wife, Martha; a sister, Annette Craig and husband, Jimmy; a sister-in-law, Jean Pennington all of Hamburg; four grandchildren, Jason Powell, Rory Powell, Loriell Bruns and Amanda Smith; six great-grandchildren, Aaron, Avery, Lillian, Cade, Camden and Clyde and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 2 p.m., Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Trinity Free Will Baptist Church with Bro. Keith Boseman and Bro. Bruce Culp officiating. Burial will be in the Egypt Cemetery. Pallbearers are Gerry Rodgers, Ronnie Rodgers, Royce Sharp, Regan Craig, Mickey Pennington, Jimmy Lynn Pennington, Rickey Pennington, Phillip Craig, Jeffery Pennington, Mack Pennington and Kenny Pennington. Memorials may be made to the Trinity Free Will Baptist Church, 803 Ashley Road 95, Hamburg, AR 71646.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Monday at the church.
