Lula Lee Howie Brooks, 77, of Hamburg, died Saturday, July 9, 2016 at the Woods of Monticello Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Brooks was a native and lifelong resident of Ashley County. She graduated from Portland High School in 1958. She was a homemaker and she worked for Foote’s and Jade Grocery Store for 40 years. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and she loved her church family. She loved to cook and wanted people to come enjoy it.
She is preceded in death by her husband, H.S. Brooks in 1995; a daughter, Olivia Ann Brooks; a grandson, Benjamin Charles Brooks; her parents, Seab & Noba Lee Pruitt Howie and a sister, Sarah Mae Howie.
She is survived by two sons, Rev. Sanders Brooks and wife, Rhonda, of Monticello and Don Brooks and wife, Kathryn, of Cabot; two sisters, Mary Alice Jackson of Tatum, Texas and Lois Mitchell of Gladewater, Texas; four grandchildren, D.J. Brooks of Conway, Megan Bateman and husband, Nick, of Starkville, Mississippi, Joseph Brooks of Conway and Grace Brooks of Cabot and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services are 10 a.m., Monday, July 11, 2016 at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Bro. Lloyd Townsend and Bro. Eugene Howie officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Pallbearers are Franklin Ricks, Keith Ladd, Sam Ricks, Jerod Selby, Matthew Ricks and Mike Martin. Honorary pallbearers are Benton Newcome, Carl Rice, Jr., Bobby Foster, Denver Burns, Wilbur Austin, Booster Burns and Joe Foote. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mt. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
