John Billy Oglesby, 82, of Hamburg, died Monday, July 27, 2015 at his residence. Mr. Oglesby was a native of Sulligent, Alabama and a resident of Hamburg since 1988. He worked for Phillips Petroleum Company for 35 years having retired in 1985 and he was a carpenter, a brick layer and a welder. He was a member of the Fountain Hill First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He regarded himself as a professional bass fisherman and he enjoyed arrow hunting.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel L and Lela Morris Oglesby; a brother, Samuel L. Oglesby, Jr.; four sisters, Odette Dollar, Jeanette Reeves, Faye Cannon and Anna Pennington and seven half brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Winnie Craig Oglesby of Hamburg; a son, Don Oglesby and wife, Mary, of Magnolia; a daughter, Sherry Howell and husband, Greg, of North Little Rock; two sisters, Earnestine Stanfford and Laverne Northington both of Sulligent, Alabama; 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial will be 10 a.m., Thursday, July 30, 2015 in the Eden Cemetery with Bro. Bill Elton officiating. Memorials may be made to the donor’s charity of choice.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home
