Willie Jo Parkerson Hale Renfroe Wallace, 86, of Harlingen, Texas passed away Friday, September 17, 2021. She was born March 14, 1935 in Snyder, Arkansas to the late Dennis and Geraldine Austin Parkerson. Mrs. Wallace worked as the Administrator of the Leisure Lodge Nursing Homes in Sulphur Springs, Texas for 15 years. For the next 10 years, she and her late husband traveled across the Unites States and Canada in their RV. After settling in Harlingen, Texas, she faithfully volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House, Valley Baptist Medical Center Gift Shop, Valley Baptist Medical Center Waiting Area, Harlingen First United Methodist Church Thrift Shop, Harlingen First United Methodist Church office, and the “No One Dies Alone” program. Later in life, she and her sisters (known as the Golden Girls) were famous for dressing in matching attire, especially on holidays, drawing a crowd wherever they went. She was a lifelong Elvis fan and enjoyed visiting Graceland twice. As a natural social coordinator, she organized gatherings at the Eastgate RV/Mobile Home Park that will long be remembered. She was also a regular at the Austin family reunion where she made the rounds to every cabin at Lake Chicot State Park. She made a difference to so many people in so many ways. Above all, Jo lived life to the fullest each day and was loved by her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, James Hale, Wallace Renfroe, and Robert Wallace; her son, Stan Hale; her parents, Dennis & Geraldine Austin Parkerson; two brothers, Junior Parkerson and Jimmy Parkerson and a sister, Marilyn Hale.
She is survived by two daughters, Debbie Hale (Chris Cahill) of Harlingen, Texas, and Jamie Winnett of Sulphur Springs, Texas; a sister, Chris Mhoon of Harlingen, Texas; a grandson, John Thurman and wife, Amanda, of The Colony, Texas and numerous other family members and friends.
Graveside services are 10 a.m., Thursday, September 30, 2021 at the Promise Land Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Toby Austin officiating.
