William Marshall Van Hook Obituary

William Marshall Van Hook, 81, of Hamburg died Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at the Arkansas Hospice Inpatient Center in Little Rock.  Mr. Van Hook was born and grew up in Natchitoches, Louisiana.  He was a resident of Hamburg for the past 20 years and a former resident of Texas for most of his life.  He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having retired after 20 years of service and two tours of duty during the Vietnam Era.  He worked as a Police Officer in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas Area for several years then transitioned to the Texas Department of Corrections until he retired. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the South Hills Lodge #1389 in Fort Worth, Texas.  Mr. Van Hook enjoyed being outside surrounded by nature and target shooting. He was a huge history buff and would read anything he could about history or true crime. Mr. Van Hook loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Floyd Van Hook and his mother, Elsie Gilcrease Wilson; a brother, Harry Van Hook; five sisters, Lela Dalme, Betty Davenport, Lavada “Sugar” Tanner, Dorothy Martin and Billie Mae Pittman and a daughter-in-law, Kesha Van Hook.

He is survived by his wife of almost 35 years, Connie Cunningham Van Hook of Hamburg; four sons, Paul Van Hook and wife, Missy, David Van Hook, David Clayton Van Hook and Josh Van Hook and wife, Angela, all of Texas and Donald Barnett and wife, Wendi, of Idaho Falls, Idaho; his only beloved daughter, Donna Fuller and husband, Russell, of Decatur; a brother, Walter Van Hook of Natchitoches, Louisiana; a sister, Joann Smith of Pearland, Texas; 13 grandchildren, Ashley, Reece, Jaci, Kiera, Alexandria, Anna, Katherine, Kaylee, Kinley, Grace, Abigail, Filicitee and Kali; 3 great-grandchildren, Cy, Kota and Ben and a host of nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

Funeral services are 2 p.m., Saturday, August 3, 2024 at the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jared Conatser officiating.  Burial will be in the Crossroads Cemetery. Pallbearers are Buddy Cook, David Cunningham, Mike Croswell, Dennis Carpenter, Brad Moffatt and Lee Barnett.  Honorary pallbearers are Mickey Amos, William Moffatt, Archie Dalme and Richard Dalme. 

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.
