Willene Graves Carpenter, 82, of Hamburg, died Tuesday, January 28, 2020, in Crossett. Mrs. Carpenter was a native of Hamburg and a resident of Hamburg and Fountain Hill for most of her life. She was a homemaker and an active and faithful member of the First Baptist Church. Mrs. Carpenter was a Pastor's wife and her husband often stated that she was the best Pastor’s wife a pastor could ever ask for. She was an excellent cook, a loving wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Rev. Hunter E. Carpenter in 2016; her parents, Ira Homer and Willie Emma Turner Graves and two sisters, Evelyn Faye Carpenter and Norma Graves Wheeler.
She is survived by her son, Rev. Tim Carpenter and wife, Dianna, of Hot Springs; her daughter, Gail Carter and husband, Dr. Randall Carter, of Van Buren; a brother, Jerry Wayne Graves and wife, Janis, of Hamburg; three grandchildren, Adrianna Carter of Rogers, Andrew Carpenter and Will Carpenter both of Hot Springs and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Saturday, February 1, 2020, in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ty Danielson and Rev. Gayle Riles officiating. Burial will be in the Prairie Grove Cemetery in Drew County. Pallbearers are Mark Bowden, Jim Atkins, Dr. Justin Atkins, Ben Carpenter, Clyde Upton, and Steve Upton. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Garry Graves, Wayne Graves, Dr. Randall Carter, Jerry Jackson, Will Carpenter, Andrew Carpenter and Kevin Graves. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, PO Box 352, Hamburg, AR 71646.
Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel.
