Wayne Lee Courson, 78, of Hamburg, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at his home. He was born on July 23, 1946, in Magnolia and was the son of the late Richard & Hester Courson of Hamburg and was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Littlejohn and husband Joe. Wayne was the owner of R.M. Courson, Inc. and for more than 50 years, paved the roads in South Arkansas. During retirement, he pursued his true passion of raising Hereford cattle and working on the farm. His family will forever miss his love, guidance and dry sense of humor. The adult children and grands will especially miss his office "bolt" therapy administered throughout the years. While he sat at his desk and "dressed them down", they quietly twiddled with a bolt and nut he kept on the corner of his desk (the threads are now bare).
Wayne is survived by his wife of 33 years, Lummye Courson; four children, Richard Courson (Amy), Teresa Courson Trigleth (Stacey), Chad Sweeney (Tracey), and Jared Sweeney; three grandchildren, Seth Sweeney, Gus Sweeney (Hannah), Breckin Lee Barfield and two great-grandchildren, Eva and Ivy Sweeney. Wayne is also survived by his bonus son and sidekick, Tom McLemore, who worked with him on the farm for more than 30 years. The family appreciates everyone who prayed, called and helped care for Wayne during his illness. A special thanks to the Hospice Home Care team and Tom McLemore for his care during his illness.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m., Thursday, April 10, 2025, in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Joel Meredith officiating. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m., prior to the service. A private scattering of his ashes will be held at a later date. Honorary pallbearers are the R.M. Courson, Inc. crew, Roger Sadler, Hal Sedberry, Billy McDonald, Larry Collins and Terry Savage, also Gene Thompson, Bobby Martin, Johnny Martin, Andrew Hartshorn and Doyle Blankenship. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to two of Wayne's favorite charities, the Arkansas Special Olympics, 1100 W. 7th Street, Suite 200, Little Rock, AR 72201 or to the Helping Hands Food Pantry, c/o Brad Davis, 604 Ashley Road 485, Hamburg, AR 71646.
