Wayne Dodson, 74, of Crossett, died Sunday, June 16, 2024 at his residence. Mr. Dodson was a native of Calvin, Oklahoma and a former resident of Oklahoma and California before his family moved to Crossett when he was 12 years old. He was a 1968 graduate of Crossett High School, where he held a Track record and played football and baseball. Mr. Dodson proudly served his country in the United States Army and the Army Reserves. He worked as a Supervisor for the Georgia-Pacific Papermill, having retired after 41 years. Mr. Dodson was a member of the North Crossett First Free Will Baptist Church. As an avid outdoorsman, the only thing he enjoyed more than hunting and fishing was teaching his children and grandchildren how to hunt and fish. He liked to watch Oklahoma University Football and attending rodeos, bull riding and roping events. Mr. Dodson was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack Robert and Erma Marie Tipton Dodson and a son, Jason Vance High.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Macky Barnett Dodson; three sons, John Riley Dodson and wife, Amy, Frank Dodson and wife, Brandi, and Lynn High all of Crossett; a daughter, Rhonda Courson and husband, Dan, of Hamburg; nine grandchildren, Brittney Pearcy, Laura Creel and husband, Creston, Justin Courson and wife, Nicole, Vance High and wife, Abbie, Riley Dodson, Ty Dodson and Parker Hendrix, Bailey Dodson, Cy Dodson and Lana Dodson and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are 3 p.m., Tuesday, June 18, 2024 in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bodie Spicer officiating. Burial will be in the Unity Cemetery. Pallbearers are Ty Dodson, Cy Dodson, Vance High, Joey Barnett, Brandon Fitch and Justin Courson. Honorary pallbearers Mike Buchner, Timmy Atkins, John Key, Jim Sharp, Raegan Craig, David Owens, Johnny “Buddy” Seach, Paul Skender, Tony Blann, Dickie Wall, Stephen Smith, Stephen Bolin, Burl Mills and Billy Wayne Stanley.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Monday in the funeral home chapel.
