Velma Jane Bennett Farmer, 77, of Hamburg, died Friday, February 14, 2020, at her residence. Mrs. Farmer was a native and lifelong resident of Hamburg, a 1960 graduate of Hamburg High School and a member of the Southside Baptist Church. She worked for Farmers Bank for 50 years, having retired in 2010 as Vice President.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, A.D. Farmer in 2001; her parents, Floyd and Lillie Norrell Bennett; two brothers, Aubrey Bennett and Leward Bennett, and a sister, Myrtle Bennett Nutter Atkins.
She is survived by her son, Rodney Farmer and wife, Rebecca, of Prague, Czech Republic; she was NeeNee to her granddaughter that she adored, Emma Arden Farmer; three sisters, Robbie Walter of Fountain Hill, Macel Oden of Hamburg and Norma Lawrence of Crossett. The family would like to thank Dana Burden, Jamiya (Bebe) Burden and Jameisa (Mimi) Burden, all of Lake Village, for their love and care of Mrs. Velma during her recent illness.
Funeral services are 2 p.m., Monday, February 17, 2020, at the Southside Baptist Church with Rev. David Newberry officiating. Burial will be in the Cleveland Cemetery. Pallbearers are Ted Richardson, Calvin Frierson, Carol Womack, Hunter Buatt, Doug Crane and Herman Morman. Honorary pallbearers are Brian Oden, Kyle Oden, Sammy Oden, Carl Nutter, David Nutter, Marlon Bennett, Matthew Thomas, John Hunter Buatt, John Knox Joerden and Doyle Lawrence. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
