Tommy R. Thompson, Sr., 85, of Hamburg, died Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Nightingale at Crossett Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Thompson was a native and lifelong resident of Hamburg and a 1959 graduate of Hamburg High School. He was a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, a Mason, and a member of the Hamburg Prairie Lodge #465, having received his 50-year pin. Mr. Thompson was a Road Foreman for the Ashley County Road Department before he started his own business, Thompson Septic Tank Pumping. He enjoyed making golf ball “play pretties”, entering items in the Ashley County Fair, hand carving walking canes, traveling, eating out, and visiting with others.
He is preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Aaron Thompson in 2020; his parents, Lovell and Nettie Craig Thompson; a brother, Robby L. Thompson; his sister-in-law, Noma Thompson and his nephew, James Thompson and his wife, Sherry Thompson.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Rebecca Forrest Thompson; a son, Tommy Royce Thompson, Jr.; a daughter, Betty Farmer and husband, David, all of Hamburg; two grandsons, Joseph Farmer and wife, Suzanne, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma and Daniel Farmer of Eudora and a host of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services are 2 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2024, in the Judson Cemetery with Bro. Joey Meredith officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Billy Jones, Levi Gray, Lee Thornhill, Ronnie Wright, Johnnie Bolin, and John Hodge.
Visitation will be 1:30 – 2 p.m., Thursday at the cemetery.
