Thomas E. "Tommy" Evans, 78, of Hamburg, died Wednesday, December 11, 2024 at his residence. Mr. Evans was born October 2, 1946 in Batesville, was a resident of the Milo Community outside of Hamburg for the past 29 years and a former resident of Crossett for over 20 years. Mr. Evans graduated in 1964 from the Robert E. Lee High School in Springfield, Virginia and continued his education at the University of Arkansas at Monticello where he received an Accounting Degree. He was a veteran of the United States Army, honorably serving his country at Fort Benning, Georgia, Fort Ord, California and overseas in Göppingen, Germany. Mr. Evans was an Accountant and oversaw payroll and accounting for Firestone for several years, GLAD Industries for many years, and H&R Block in Crossett until he retired in 2011. Mr. Evans was a Methodist. He enjoyed crappie fishing and hunting, was a member of the Evans & Hobbs Hunting Club and an avid Arkansas Razorback Fan. Mr. Evans was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leon Edward and Sally Houston Evans; two brothers, James Lee Evans and John Eric Evans and a nephew, Ricky Evans.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Wanda Wood Evans; a daughter, Karen Lynn Glennon and husband, Ricky, all of Hamburg; a sister, Susan Ayers of Richmond, Virginia; three grandchildren, Caleb Martin and wife, Lexi, Kory Steen and wife, Molly and Kate Towner and husband, Matt; three great-grandchildren, Rhett Martin, Lily Steen and Marlee Towner; his aunt, Pippa Evans of Lake Village and a niece, Anna Evans of Hamburg.
Funeral services are 2 p.m., Sunday, December 15, 2024 in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Flat Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers are Caleb Martin, Kory Steen, Matt Towner, Ricky Glennon, Clarence Cain and Wilbur Jackson. Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Evans & Hobbs Hunting Club. The family would like to thank his Hospice Nurse, Brianna Woodall, and Hospice Home Care of Monticello for all of the love and care shown to Mr. Evans.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home.
