Obituary

Teddy Hickman, 80, of Hamburg, died Friday, November 6, 2020, at his home. Mr. Hickman was a native of Bradley County and a resident of Hamburg for over 65 years. He graduated from Hamburg High School in 1957 and was a veteran of the United States Army.  Mr. Hickman served as a Deputy Sheriff in Ashley County for 3 ½ years and worked for the Mississippi River Transmission Corporation and CenterPoint Energy for over 30 years.  He was a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Hickman helped start the Youth Baseball program in Hamburg and he was a major contributor to starting the Girls Softball program in Hamburg.  Mr. Hickman served as a coach for many years and was a father figure and mentor for many of the boys and girls that played in the Hamburg Baseball and Softball programs.  The Hamburg City Park has a ball field named in his honor, and the Hamburg Area Chamber of Commerce named him the Man of the Year in 2013. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing and always loved the good times he had hunting with squirrel dogs.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie & Katie Frisby Hickman; a brother, Eddie Charles Hickman and a sister-in-law, Treva Hickman.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda White Hickman; his son, Todd Hickman; his daughter, Sharon Hickman, all of Hamburg; three grandchildren, Whitley Hickman and boyfriend, Caleb Taylor, Tyler Hickman and Maci Hickman, and their mother, Shawn Hickman; a special little boy, Jacoby Savage; his brother-in-law, Cecil White of Crossett and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services are 2 p.m., Sunday, November 8, 2020, in the Promise Land Cemetery Pavilion with Bro. Joseph Pemberton, Bro. Joey Meredith and Bro. Richard West officiating.  Burial will be in the Promise Land Cemetery.  Pallbearers are Kelly Joe Mormon, Josh Pollock, Randy Roberts, Jimmy Pennington, Stan Craig, Michael Jeffers, Jim Moffatt and Eric Montgomery. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Smith, Steve Cypert, Ralph Parker, Dewey “Scutter” Kilcrease, the Men of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church and all former employees of Mississippi River Transmission Corporation.  Memorials may be made to the Hamburg High School Honors Scholarship Fund, PO Box 30, Hamburg, AR 71646. 

Visitation will be 1:45 – 2 p.m., Sunday at the cemetery.
