Sylvia Hackett Pierce Obituary

Sylvia Hackett Pierce, 80, of Hamburg, died Thursday, December 31, 2020, at the Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello.  Mrs. Pierce was a native of Portland and a resident Portland for many years, having lived in Hamburg for the past 44 years.  She was a homemaker, she loved her church and was an active member of the North Main Missionary Baptist Church.  Mrs. Pierce enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, and watching basketball when she could.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dave Crockett & Lydia Janes Estes Hackett; a brother, Cecil Peoples; five sisters, Estelle Crawford, Mary Breedlove, Frances Wilson, Bea Mazzanti, and Vaughta A. Glover.

She is survived by two daughters, Stephanie Jackson and husband, B.J., of Monticello and Sherry Thompson and husband, James, of Hamburg; a brother, Henry Dave Hackett of Dermott; four grandchildren, Dabney Stell and husband, Wade, Bert Jackson and wife, Jessica, all of Monticello, Tyler Thompson and wife, Mallori, Hunter Thompson and wife, Punky, all of Hamburg; five great-grandchildren, Noah & Naomi Jackson, Macey, Olivia and Husdon Stell; special friends, Johnny W. Pierce and his family and Freida Pierce and her family and a host of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services are 2 p.m., Saturday, January 2, 2021, in the Portland Cemetery with Bro. James Thompson and Crockett Hackett officiating. Pallbearers are Bert Jackson, Tyler Thompson, Hunter Thompson, Wade Stell, Josh Pierce, Johnny W. Pierce, Cody Hollaway, Dave Hackett, Perry Wilson, Steve Brooks and Tim Smith.  Honorary pallbearers are Gerald Tomerlin, Mark Tomerlin, Mark Vaught, Peck Smith, Lee Adams, Scott Pennington, Fisher Grubbs, Caden Vaught, Austin Pennington, Jackson Grubbs, Jacob Overbey and Garrett Pardon.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the North Main Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund, 1105 N. Main Street, Hamburg, AR  71646, or the Portland Cemetery Association, PO Box 174, Portland, AR  71663, or the Helping Hands Food Pantry, c/o Mary Williams, 816 Pine Ridge Drive, Hamburg, AR  71646. 

Visitation will be 1:45 – 2 p.m. Saturday at the cemetery.
