Sybil Graves Obituary

Sybil Graves, 96, of Crossett, died Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at the Nightingale at Crossett Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Graves was a native of Leaksville, Mississippi, a resident of Crossett for the past eight years, and a former resident of Hamburg and Fountain Hill for many years. She took on the role of the head of her household at an early age, raising her children and working at a boat factory and as a Machine Operator at the Hamburg Shirt Factory. Mrs. Graves was a member of the Fountain Hill First Baptist Church. She had a heart of gold and was always willing to help others. She enjoyed painting, crocheting, and spending time with her family and friends. 

She is preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Curtis Graves in 1978; two daughters, Jan Bankston-Crain in 2023 and Ruth McDougald in 1978; two grandsons, Russell Kelley and Steve Stephenson; two infant grandsons, Lance McDougald and Michael McDougald; her parents, Aubrey and Missouria Hillman Gardner; three sisters, her twin, Sylvia Lucius, Alma Almond and Faye Worthington; two brothers, Dean Gardner and Charlie Gardner and a son-in-law, Ralph Jackson.

She is survived by three daughters, Brenda Jackson and Judy Jackson and husband, Byron, all of Crossett and Betty Adams and husband, Dale, of Hamburg; two sons, Joe Dean Graves and wife, Jane, of Mountain Home and Terry Graves and wife, Sheila, of Junction City; a brother, Bobby Gardner and wife, Deloris, of Houston, Texas; three sisters, Jean Smith and Ruby Averrett, both of Houston, Texas and Shirley Barlow of Alabama; 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren,  1 great-great-grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are 2 p.m., Friday, February 23, 2024 at the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Elton officiating. Burial will be in the Flat Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers are Zachary Jackson, Scott Stephenson, Jason McDougald, Octaviano Mondragon, Jonathan Pearcy, Lucas Graves and T.C. Graves. Honorary pallbearers are Maddox Carney and Briar Jackson. 

Visitation will be 1-2 p.m., Friday, in the funeral home chapel.
