Sue Burgess

Sue Burgess, 89, of Hamburg, died Monday, January 10, 2022, at the Stonegate Villa Rehabilitation Center in Crossett.  Mrs. Burgess was a native of Kosciusko, Mississippi, a resident of the Milo Community for over 15 years, and a former resident of Hamburg for over 60 years.  She was a 1950 graduate of McAdams High School. Mrs. Burgess was a homemaker, a member of the Ashley County Homemakers Club for over 40 years and she volunteered at the Ashley County Fairgrounds.  She was a mighty prayer warrior, who enjoyed reading her Bible, and was a faithful member of the Mount Pleasant Free Will Baptist Church.  Mrs. Burgess loved to travel and visit with her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, James F. Burgess in 2005; her parents, Burney and Annie Warren Leggett; four sisters, Louise Russell, Nell Carmeans, Mamie Crittenden and Elizabeth Moss and a brother, Tommy Leggett.

She is survived by a son, Jim Burgess and wife, Carol, of Hamburg; a sister-in-law, Betty Halley and husband, Dude, of West Monroe, Louisiana and a host of nieces, nephews, many other family members and friends.

Graveside services are 2 p.m., Thursday, January 13, 2022, in the Promise Land Cemetery with Bro. Keith Boseman officiating.  Honorary pallbearers are Matthew Allison, Pat Allison, John Fox, Jamie Meeks, Nicholas Meeks, and Scotty Richardson.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mount Pleasant Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Carol Burgess, 2290 HWY 189, Hamburg, AR  71646. 

Visitation will be 1:30 – 2 p.m. Thursday at the cemetery.
