Stephen Ray Lawrence

Stephen Ray Lawrence, 72, of Montrose, died Saturday, June 21, 2025, at his residence. Mr. Lawrence was born April 1, 1953 in Tucson, Arizona, was raised in Ashley County and was a resident of Newnan, Georgia for 32 years before moving to Montrose three years ago. He was a 1971 graduate of Drew Central High School and a graduate of the University of Arkansas. Mr. Lawrence was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church and he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era. He worked with his father for many years at Lawrence Construction and as a Construction Superintendent in commercial construction. Mr. Lawrence enjoyed fishing at Cut-off Creek and hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Lavern & Kathryn S. "Betty" Knight Lawrence; three brothers, Mike Lawrence, Bruce Lawrence and Kelly Lawrence and two sisters, Brenda Harris and Diana Mann.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Shirley Legg Lawrence of Newnan, Georgia; a son, Cody Lawrence of Montrose; a step-son, Corey Arrington and his wife, Tiffany, of Newnan, Georgia; a daughter, Taylor Lawrence of Warner Robins, Georgia; a step-daughter, Sherry Calhoun and her husband, Jason, of Newnan, Georgia and two grandchildren, Marley and Callie.

 A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
