Sammy Land, Jr., 71, of Montrose, died Friday, December 17, 2021, at the Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. Mr. Land was a native of Lake Village, a resident of Montrose for most of his life and a 1968 graduate of Portland High School. After farming with his father, he worked for Georgia-Pacific Plywood for many years. He was a Minister and pastored Aulds Baptist Church and was the former pastor of Sardis Baptist Church and the Cowboy Church in Wilmot. Mr. Land was an outdoorsman and an avid hunter and fisherman. He never met a stranger and he loved his family and friends unconditionally.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Barbara Land in 2011; his daughter, Doylene Ricks in November of this year; his parents, Sam & Elise Morris Land and a brother, James Land.
He is survived by his wife of eight years, Helen Tanksley Elmore Land of Montrose; two sons, Sam S. Land, III "Trey" and wife, DeAndria, of Crossett and Stacy Kellum and wife, Renae, of Yellville; a son-in-law, Franklin Ricks of Montrose; two step-sons, Chris Elmore and wife, Tiffany, of Paragould and John Elmore and wife, Michelle, of Montrose; two step-daughters, India Martin and husband, Lee, of Sheridan and Kelley Elmore of Montrose; 25 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at Sardis Baptist Church with Bro. Scott Ricks officiating. Burial will be in the Trafalgar Cemetery. Pallbearers are Chris Elmore, Ben Lawrence, Franklin Ricks, Sam Ricks, Jamie Spaulding and Robbie Spaulding. Honorary pallbearers are Bob Young, Tim Williams and Bud Henderson. Visitation will be 6 – 8 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
