Ruth C. Martin, 90, of Hamburg, died Monday, September 27, 2021. Mrs. Martin was a native of Ashley County and a lifelong resident of Hamburg. She worked at Akers Cleaners, where she met her husband, 10 years with the Hamburg Shirt Factory and was a homemaker. Mrs. Martin was a faithful member of Judson Missionary Baptist Church. An amazing seamstress, everyone knew if you needed alterations or to have a quilt made, all you had to do was call Mrs. Ruth. Even in her later years, she was always working on a quilt or sewing something for someone. She was known to be very resourceful and enjoyed taking care of everyone. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Edward Martin in 1990; two sons, Jimmy G. “Jimbo” Martin in 2018 and Freddie Martin in 1971; her parents, R.B. & Emma Loveless Culp; four brothers, Thomas William “Pete” Culp, Robert Chalmer Culp, James Uriah Culp and Dudley Culp; four sisters, Mary Hunter, Alma Gardner, Ellie Godwin, and Georgia McNeice.
She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Leigh and husband, Danny, of Bryant; two sons, Robert Martin and wife, Missy, of Hamburg and Frank E. Martin and wife, Donna, of Fountain Hill; a sister, Louise Cox of Hamburg; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Graveside services are 2 p.m., Wednesday, September 29, 2021, in the Judson Cemetery with Rev. Bill Elton officiating. Honorary pallbearers are her grandsons, Brian Leigh, Chance Martin, Jarrod Martin, Steven Martin, Tristan Walls, Brandon Hentschel, Mike Pallo and Phillip Cook. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, in the funeral home chapel.
