Ruby Nell McCain

Ruby Nell McCain, 84, of Hamburg, died Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at her residence. Mrs. McCain was a native of West Carroll Parish, Louisiana; a resident of Hamburg for the past 21 years and a former resident of Wilmot for 44 years. She worked as a Nursing Home Administrator for over 15 years, was a member of the Wilmot City Council, and very instrumental in starting an ambulance service in Wilmot. Mrs. McCain was a member of the Wilmot Baptist Church and helped many people study and receive their General Education Degree. She contributed to many various charities and was especially supportive of Delta Counseling.  Mrs. McCain took pride in helping her husband farm, had a “green thumb” and her garden was just as stunning as her beautiful flowers. She enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, cooking and wrote a cookbook. Above all things, she loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and cherished the time spent with her family.

She is preceded in death by two grandsons, Tyler Jones in 2005 and Randy Abraugh in 2019; her parents, Edward and Gussie Lee Crain, three brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, J.L. McCain of Hamburg; a son, Jackie McCain of Wilmot; three daughters, Deborah McCain Jones of Monroe, Louisiana, Vickie McCain Alberson and husband, James, of Hamburg and Karen McCain Abraugh and husband, Troy, of Wilmot; six brothers and sisters, Edna Lewis, Shirley Hughlett and husband, Gene, Bobby Joe Crain and wife, Trish, Diane Puttman and husband, Donald, Nancy Mayo and husband, Randy, and Donald Crain and wife, Darlene; 6 grandchildren, Lamar, Mindy, Heather, Hannah, Hillary and Raven; 11 great-grandchildren, Dylan, Devyn, Alyssa, Gracee, Josie, Aiden, Madilyn, Amelia, Asher, Nash and Owen; a great-great-grandson, Joseph. The family would like to say a special thank you to her caregivers, Marilyn Harrison, Eunice Stokes and Beverly Pace, for all of the love and care shown to Mrs. McCain and her family.

Funeral services are 10 a.m., Saturday, May 21, 2022, at the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Philip Bowles officiating. Burial will be in the Wilmot Cemetery. Pallbearers are, Dylan McCain, Devyn Jones, Troy Abraugh, James Alberson, Robbie McCain and Scott Crain. Honorary pallbearers are Lamar McCain, Gene Crain and Darrell Clifton. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Arkansas, 201 Markham Center Drive, Little Rock, AR  72205. 

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
