Ruby N. Bennett, 90, of North Little Rock, died Thursday, February 2, 2023, at the Lakewood Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Bennett was a native of Portland, a resident of North Little Rock for the past 15 years, and a resident of Hamburg for many years. She was a member of Central Baptist Church in North Little Rock and a charter member of Southside Baptist Church in Hamburg. Mrs. Bennett managed Ruby’s Corner, inside LaGrone Drug Store, for over 25 years, having retired at age 75. While she was always ready to help with many things at the drug store, at Ruby’s Corner, she was known to make the best tuna fish sandwich and chicken salad. Mrs. Bennett enjoyed seeing her regular customers and would often begin preparing their order as soon as they walked in. She was an avid reader and would read anything she could get her hands on. Mrs. Bennett was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Leward Bennett in 1992; her parents, Percy Howard and Johnnie A. Smith Eubanks; three brothers, Bob Eubanks, Billy Eubanks, and Tommy Eubanks; a sister, Carolyn McDonald and a nephew, Allen Eubanks.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Anderson and husband, Larry, and Sherry Booles and husband, Harold, all of Sherwood; a sister, Melba Walker of Shreveport, Louisiana; two granddaughters, Kacy Burge of Sherwood and Laura Matthews and husband, Donnie, of North Little Rock; five great-grandchildren, Caroline Burge, Jack Burge, Bennett Matthews, Wes Matthews, and Van Matthews and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 2 p.m., Tuesday, February 7, 2023, in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Wyman Richardson officiating. Burial will be in the Cleveland Cemetery. Pallbearers are Mike Walker, Mark Walker, Barry Walker, Greg Eubanks, Keith Bearden, and Marlon Bennett. Memorials may be made to the Central Baptist Church, 5200 Fairway, North Little Rock, AR 72116. The family would like to thank all of the staff at the Lakewood Health and Rehabilitation Center, where Mrs. Bennett was a resident for the past six and a half years, for love and care shown and for treating her like their family.
Visitation will be 1 – 2 p.m., Tuesday in the funeral home chapel.
