Robbie Faye Bennett Walter, 92, of Fountain Hill (previously of Hamburg; La Marque, Texas; and Long Branch, New Jersey) went to be with her Lord on Saturday, March 29, 2025. Mrs. Walter was born March 10, 1933 just outside of Hamburg. "Pretty Thing" was the fifth child of Velma Floyd and Lily Wysetta Norrell Bennett. Mrs. Walter worked ceaselessly to make her house a Godly home for her family. She loved Jesus and lived for him. She was a foster parent and second mother to numerous children. Her love for children led her to direct Little Church for over a decade at Paul's Union Church in La Marque, Texas.
Later, she and her husband traveled around the country preaching the Gospel of Christ. She helped found a church in Hamburg and served as Associate Pastor there for many years. All who knew her expected her to speak plainly from God's word at any moment's notice. Mrs. Walter was married to her husband, Jim, for 68 1/2 years when he passed, and she often said, "I'll be so glad to hug his neck when I see him again." Now that she has met her King face to face and is reunited with Jim, she eagerly awaits us to join them in heaven.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, James J. Walter, and her first born child, Keith Edward Walter; her parents, Velma Floyd and Lily Wysetta Norrell Bennett; two brothers, Aubrey Bennett and Leward Bennett and three sisters, Norma Lawrence, Myrtle Nutter Atkins and Velma Farmer.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen L. Thomas and Dr. Kay Walter; two grandchildren, Rebecca Jane Thomas and Matthew Paul Thomas; a sister, Macel L. Oden; many nieces, nephews, and other family members; as well as a host of spiritual relatives she loved as her own. Floyd Freeser, Jon Tuewissen, and Celza Brumley were very special to her.
Funeral services are 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 2, 2025, in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jerry Grant and Bro. John Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Cleveland Cemetery. Pallbearers are Sammy Oden, Brian Oden, David Nutter, Marlon Bennett, Rodney Farmer, and Danny Orr. Honorary pallbearers are Floyd Feeser and Jon Tuewissen.
Visitation will be 6 - 8 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
