Rev. Travis Roberts, 88, of Crossett, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, July 25, 2022, at the Ashley County Medical Center. Rev. Roberts was born near Rison, the youngest of seven children, and graduated from Rison High School in 1952. After he married his high school sweetheart in 1954, they moved to Crossett, and have remained residents of Crossett for the past 57 years. Rev. Roberts was raised on a cotton farm, worked for Chase Bag, and in 1955, he went to work as a millwright for the Georgia-Pacific Corporation Papermill for 41 years. A devoted man of God, he became licensed and ordained in 1980 to preach the gospel. He attended Boyce Bible School in Little Rock to enrich his ministry as a Bi-Vocational Pastor. During his 34 years as a beloved Pastor, Rev. Roberts served his Lord faithfully and pastored at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Eden Baptist Church, Second Baptist Church, Corinth Baptist Church, Martinville Baptist Church, Zachary Baptist Church, Pleasant Lane Baptist Church, Gillett First Baptist Church, Sardis Baptist Church, and Unity Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by a son, Howard Roberts in 2016; his parents, Bart David & Chester Owens Roberts, two brothers and four sisters.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart and cherished wife of 68 years, Peggy Ruth Cash Roberts of Crossett; two sons, Steve Roberts and wife, Terri, of Arkadelphia, and Danny Roberts and wife, Christine, of Hull, Georgia; four grandchildren, Michael, Jessica, Lacey (Ryan), and Landon and three great-grandchildren, Lily, Madi and Monroe and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 2 p.m., Thursday, July 28, 2022, at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Steve Roberts and Danny Roberts officiating. A private burial will be in Pinewood Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers are Ben Lawrence, Jerry Ozment, James Connor, Gene Sturgis, Mike Chain, Lee Patrick, Michael Roberts, Landon Roberts, Royce Harville, and John Pennington.
Visitation will be from 1 – 2 p.m. Thursday at the church.
The family request that everyone exercise social distancing and face masks will be encouraged.
