Pauline “Polly” Sullivan Lochala, 92, of Hamburg, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at the Peachtree Assisted Living Center in Mena. After seeing her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, her family is sure she reached for her beloved husband, Roddy Lochala, and many other loved ones. Mrs. Lochala was born in Winston County, Mississippi on October 2, 1931. She graduated from Hamburg High School in 1949 and before graduating, she worked as a Secretary for Attorney Jimmy Linder. While her boys were young, she became the Secretary for the First Baptist Church in Hamburg, where she was a faithful member and Sunday School Teacher. She and her husband worked with the youth department with many fellowships, retreats at Wolfe Creek, “falling in parties” and Sweetheart Banquets. Mrs. Lochala later went to work for Carl Locke at Ashley County Abstract. This changed to Locke Insurance and Locke and Spivey Timber. She and Martha Lauhon eventually bought the insurance agency changing the name to Jones-Lochala Insurance. Mrs. Lochala was an Independent Insurance Agent, serving on the board of Independent Insurance Agents of Arkansas for 15 years. During this time, she became a Registered Public Accountant continuing to keep books, tax preparation and returns. Later, Mrs. Lochala became a licensed real estate agent and partnered with Martha Lauhon and John Spivey in the Ashley County Realty Company. She served on the Equalization Board of Ashley County, was the first female President of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce and served as the Chairman of the Hamburg High School Honors Scholarship for several years. She received the Fred LaGrone Lifetime Achievement Award and was also presented an Arkansas Achievement award by then Governor Frank White. With all she had going on in her life, Mrs. Lochala still made time for her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Roddy C. Lochala in 2007; her parents, Clyde and Christine Higginbotham Sullivan; a sister, Louise Burnett and a brother, Clyde “Buster” Sullivan, Jr.
She is survived by two sons, Roddy “Butch” Lochala and wife, Patty, of Newport and Dr. Richard “Rick” Lochala and wife, Susan, of Mena; her sister-in-law, Donna Sullivan, of Jonesboro, Louisiana; six grandchildren, that lovingly called her “Granny”, Dr. Roddy S. Pallbearers are her sons, grandsons and friends. Honorary pallbearers are the men and women, too many to name, that had their lives touched by Mrs. Lochala.
