Ocie L. Swaim, 85, of Dallas, Texas, died Sunday, April 20, 2025, at the Carrollton Regional Medical Center in Carrollton, Texas. Mr. Swaim was born November 15, 1939 in Bluffton, Arkansas, was a resident of Dallas for the past two years, a former resident of Crossett for four years and a former resident of Snyder for many years. He was a 1958 graduate of Gould High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1960 until 1965. Mr. Swaim worked as a forklift operator for the Goodyear Rubber Company in Houston, Texas for many years and on the farm as a mechanic, driving a combine as well as operating other farm equipment. Mr. Swaim was a member of the Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church where he assisted with the Awanas program. He enjoyed visiting with people, church gatherings, Sunday dinners, spending time with family and friends, traveling, especially driving through mountains to Yellowstone and Mt. Rushmore, working on computers, mowing, taking care of his yard and fishing. Mr. Swaim was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Bonnie Moss Swaim in 2018; a granddaughter, LaShaun Swaim in 2020; his parents, Gilbert and Clara Opal Williams Swaim; two sisters, Euldean Swaim and Betty Watts and a brother, Boyce Swaim.
He is survived by two sons, Gary Swaim of Snyder and Mark Swaim and his wife, Jeanie, of Dallas, Texas; a sister, Bobbye Gillum of Pine Bluff; two brothers, Royce Swaim and his wife, Sandra, of Crossett and Shelly Swaim and his wife, Nona, of Gould; three grandchildren, Meagan Higginbotham and her husband, E.J., Joshua Swaim and Bethany Rosson; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2025, at the Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Josh Luellen officiating. Graveside services are 2 p.m., Friday in the Dark Corner Cemetery in Gould. Pallbearers are Josh Swaim, Scott Swaim, Emory Austin, Nick Austin, Steven Harvey and Paul Dancer. Honorary pallbearers are Chris Boreani, Keith Swaim and David Bell. Memorials may be made to the Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church, 765 Ashley Road 70, Hamburg, AR 71646.
Visitation will be 6 - 8 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
