Mildred White Carpenter, 99, of Booneville, died Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at her home. Mrs. Carpenter was a native of Portland, a resident of Booneville for the past 23 years, a former resident of Forrest City for 34 years, and a former resident of Hamburg and Mena. Mrs. Carpenter was a homemaker, and she represented the State of Arkansas on the statewide Rural Electric Cooperative Association Board. She was a former member, Sunday school and Baptist Training Class teacher at Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church and a former member at Landmark Baptist Church in Forrest City, where she sang in the choir. Mrs. Carpenter was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Hamburg for over 60 years. She remained active with the Booneville Senior Citizens and she enjoyed camping, fishing, working with her flowers, cooking, singing, and going to church.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years and 11 months, Glynn “Poe” Carpenter; an infant son, Bobby Carpenter; her parents, Juddy and Hattie Brady White; four brothers, Andrew “Ed” White, George White, Harvell White and Harold White and three sisters, Lobelia Foy, Dorothy Yoder, and Mary Willkens.
She is survived by her son, William “Bill” Carpenter and wife, Debbie, of Booneville; two grandchildren, Kelly Jane Carpenter of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Michael Carpenter and wife, Amy, of Mena; four great-grandchildren, Greg Carpenter and wife, Courtney, Blade Carpenter and wife, Chershey, Jase Carpenter and Katelyn Strother and husband, Chance; four great-great-grandchildren, Mila, Audrina, Dovey, and Mason.
Funeral services are 3 p.m., Saturday, April 1, 2023, at the Promise Land Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Dan Bonnett and Bro. Carlton White officiating. Burial will be in the Promise Land Cemetery. Pallbearers are Michael Carpenter, Carlton White, Frankie White, Mike White, David Harville, and Chance Strother. Visitation will be 2-3 p.m., Saturday at the church.
