Mershal Dean Carpenter, 85, of Crossett, died Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at Audry’s Special Home in Hamburg. Mr. Carpenter was a native and resident of Drew County for many years and a resident of Crossett for the past 50 years. He was a 1957 graduate of Drew Central High School. Mr. Carpenter retired from Georgia-Pacific Extrusion as a Machine Operator after 43 years. He was a faithful member of Pine Forest Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Adult Sunday School Teacher for many years. Mr. Carpenter was a very compassionate and caring person that loved to feed people and was a great caregiver for his parents and mother-in-law. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most of all traveling and watching sports with his grandchildren. A devoted and loving family man, he truly looked forward to having his family around him as much as possible.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Marshal and Esther Carpenter; an infant sister, Clotene Carpenter and four brothers, Ronnie Carpenter, Garland Carpenter, Kenny Carpenter and Randal Carpenter.
He is survived by his wife of almost 63 years, Alma Faye Carpenter of Crossett; two daughters, Shela Upshaw of Crossett and Anita Stanley and husband, Mike, of Hamburg; a brother, Jimmy Carpenter and wife, Barbara, of Fountain Hill; three grandchildren, James Martin III and wife, Alexis, of Bryant, Cassi Logue and husband, Kevin, of Crossett and Makai Sinclair and husband, Easton, of Hamburg; six great-grandchildren, Kirsten, Jaylen, Bensen, Braylee, Malachi and Gauge.
Funeral services are 10 a.m., Thursday, July 18, 2024 at the Pine Forest Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Mike Carpenter and Rev. Willie Thornhill officiating. Burial will be in the Prairie Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers are James Martin III, Jaylen Martin, Kevin Logue, Malachi Logue, Ryan Carpenter, Wade Carpenter, Brandon Kelley and Easton Sinclair. Honorary pallbearers are Dennis Banks, Joe Eubanks, Gary Carpenter, Burl Toler, Danny Courson, Dale Rice and Mike Stanley. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Wednesday at the church.
