Merle Jean McKee Myers, 92, of Wilmot, died Monday, August 23, 2021, in Crossett. Mrs. Myers was a native and resident of Wilmot for 89 years, having lived in Hamburg for the past three years. She worked at the Eudora Garment Factory for over 20 years and was a member of the Wilmot United Methodist Church. Lovingly called “Mama Merle” by many, she enjoyed growing flowers and vegetables in her garden and she loved traveling with her daughter, Dorothy Iona.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James B. Myers in 1979; a daughter, Gwendolyn Myers Sawyer earlier this year; her parents, Hurley and Merle Horn McKee, a sister, Willie E. Tullos, two brothers, Orvis and Othor McKee and her two best friends, Lavern Smith Stephenson and Bud Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Iona Myers of Jacksonville; her grandchildren, Walt Sawyer of Monticello and Melissa Sawyer of Little Rock; her son-in-law, Ed Sawyer of Monticello; a special niece, Betty Bowman and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 10 a.m., Thursday, August 26, 2021, in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Richard West officiating. Burial will be in the Wilmot Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association PO Box 1610, Little Rock, AR 72203.
Visitation will be 9-10 a.m., Thursday in the funeral home chapel.
