Merle Eileen Kinnaird Hogan, 93, of Hamburg, died Monday, April 3, 2023, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Hogan was a native and lifelong resident of the Extra Community outside of Hamburg, except for a few years, when early in her married life, she and her husband lived in Bastrop, Louisiana. After graduating in 1948 from Hamburg High School, she became a homemaker and loved to cook for her family and friends. Mrs. Hogan was a member of the Extra Methodist Church, served as the Secretary of the Chemin-A-Haut Riding Club for many years, and enjoyed working at the polls during the elections. She actively researched her family history, and would share her knowledge with anyone who asked. Back in her younger days, she enjoyed Play Parties, dancing and was especially good at the Jitterbug.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Julian Evans Hogan in 2003; a great-granddaughter, Austyn Elise Hogan and her parents, Fred and Irma Moorer Kinnaird.
She is survived by her son, Fred Hogan and wife, Beth; two grandsons, Evan Hogan and wife Lindsey, all of Hamburg and Eric Hogan and wife, Tyler, of McGehee and five great-grandchildren, Ainsley Hogan, Will Hogan, Emmett Hogan, Brooks Hogan and Gray McCoy and her special sisters, Faye Hunter, Sarah Cruce and Angie Bradshaw.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2023, in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Josh Croswell officiating. Burial will be in the Extra Cemetery.
