Marvin Davis, 85, of Fountain Hill, died Saturday, November 30, 2024, at the Baptist Health Medical Center in North Little Rock. Mr. Davis was born October 25, 1939, in Parkdale and a resident of Fountain Hill for most of his life. He started his 42 year career as a truck driver at Barner and Sons then for P.E. Barnes, where he later retired. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Hamburg. Mr. Davis was an avid hunter and fisherman, he especially enjoyed catfishing on the Arkansas River and was a member of the Clark-Ware Hunting Club. In his prime, he was quite the car enthusiast and would race anyone, anywhere, at anytime. He never turned down a challenge, was built "Ford" tough. Mr. Davis was a man of many words, that never met a stranger. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, Barrett Jackson Car Auction and Fox News. Most of all, his love for his family was never ending and he looked forward to every moment they were all together, spending time laughing and talking.
He is preceded in death by his father, James Lawrence Davis; his mother, Olvie Wilson Scarbrough; two brothers, Thurman Davis and Raymond Davis and four sisters, Ruby Wilkerson, Virginia Robertson, Margie Prescott and Lucille Greene.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Walthall Davis; three daughters, Teresa Jeffers (Danny), Samantha Meeks (Jeff) and Mary Jane Cockrell (Sammy); a sister, Vivian Ware, all of Hamburg; his eight beloved grandchildren, Joni Moffatt (Chad), Corey Jeffers (Hali), Haley Carpenter (Trey), Whitney Weatherly (Cody), Jacob Jeffers, Ryan Meeks, Jordan Meeks (Breanna) and Lyndsie Kling (Christian); 14 great-grandchildren that were his pride and joy, Tyler, Brody, Ian, Landon, Jacey, Zoey, Hadlee, Konnor, Mallorie, Vallorie, Emma, Gracelynn, Kyleigh and Jaxen; a special nephew, Ray Davis (Niram) of Hickox, Georgia and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 4, 2024, in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Elvin McDill officiating. Burial will be in the Flat Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers are Rick Brazier, David Wilkerson, Joe Meeks, Robert Gifford, David White, Hardy Sawyer, Ralph Ware, and Rickie Meeks. Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren. Memorials may be made to St. Jude, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home.
