Martha Allison, 86, of Hamburg, died Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the Chicot Memorial Medical Center in Lake Village. Mrs. Allison was born January 21, 1940 in Prescott; a resident of Hamburg for 67 years and a 1958 graduate of Prescott High School. She was a member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, where she loved to help with Vacation Bible School. She had a servant’s heart and was always willing to pick up children and bring them to church so they could learn about the Lord. She also devoted many years to teaching Sunday School at Parkdale Baptist Church, planting seeds of faith in the lives of countless children. A devoted homemaker, Mrs. Allison expressed her love through canning and cooking—particularly for large gatherings, where everyone left her table full and happy. She even shared her treasured recipes by writing a cookbook for others to enjoy. Above all, her greatest joy was her family. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandson, who were the light of her life.
She is preceded in death by a son, Harold Allison; her parents, Harold and Elsie Ridgell Elmore; a sister, Helen Cathryn "Cat" Jester; two brothers, John Thomas "Tommy" Elmore and Malvern "Eppie" Elmore; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Earnest and Lottie Allison and a daughter-in-law, Kim Allison.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Barney Allison; a daughter, Helen Martin and her husband, Mike; a son, Harvey Allison, all of Hamburg; three grandchildren, Steven Martin and his wife, Caitlin, Nicole Haynes and her husband, Dalton, and Gracie Allison and a great-grandson, Grant Martin.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church with Bro. Robin Allen and Bro. Earnest King officiating. Burial will be in the Cleveland Cemetery. Pallbearers are Loren "Tiny" Allison, Chance Allison, Johnny Elmore, Steven Elmore, James "Bud" Henderson, Wilburn Martin, Chris Selby and Keith Ladd.
