Madison Allen Gilliam, Jr., 71, of Portland, left this earth for his home in Heaven on Friday, June 18, 2021, in Little Rock. Mr. Gilliam was born in Carlisle and was a resident of Portland his entire life, having moved there with his parents as an infant. He began farming with his Dad as a teenager and later continued farming with his son. He had a passion for farming and would often say, “When I get up in the morning, I don’t go to work. It’s not a job when you love what you’re doing.” He served on the board of the Farmer’s Co-op for ten years and was currently serving as President of the Chicot County Watershed District. In addition, Mr. Gilliam was a member of the Portland Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Madison Allen Gilliam, Sr. and Ola Daniel Gilliam.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda Tumlison Gilliam; his son, Madison Allen “Mat” Gilliam, III and his granddaughter, who his world revolved around, Madison Lane “Madi” Gilliam, all of Portland.
Private graveside services will be held in the Portland Cemetery with Bro. Jerry Selby officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Ricky Webb, Don Arnesman, Jimmy Hicks, Robby Lassiter, Bill Lassiter, Willard Procell and Shannon Talkington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Portland Baptist Church, PO Box 86, Portland, AR 71663 or the Portland Cemetery Association, PO Box 174, Portland, AR 71663.
