John Thomas Nowlin Obituary

John Thomas Nowlin, 81, of Crossett, Arkansas passed away Friday, March 4, 2022, at the Baptist Health Medical Center in North Little Rock. Mr. Nowlin was born on April 13, 1940 in Dumas, Arkansas to Douglas Nowlin and Vernice Roberts Nowlin Brotherton. He graduated from Dumas Public Schools in 1958 and joined the Army National Guard. Mr. Nowlin later enlisted in the United States Navy and was a Vietnam Veteran. When he returned from the war in 1969, he remained in the Naval Reserves and received a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Northeast Louisiana University. Mr. Nowlin worked for many community pharmacies during his career and enjoyed helping his customers and friends with their medical needs. After 32 years as an active and reserve military member, he retired as a Lt. Commander in 1989. He was a patriot and a proud member of the American Legion Crossett Post 111. Mr. Nowlin was a faithful member, Deacon, and Sunday School Superintendent at CrossRoad Missionary Baptist Church. He asked Jesus to save him at an early age and spent his whole life showing God's love to those around him. He loved his family, his friends and never failed to speak kindness to anyone he met.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Douglas Nowlin and Vernice Roberts Nowlin Brotherton, and two half brothers, Dwain Nowlin and Kenneth Nowlin.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 55 years, Faith White Nowlin; his daughter, Sherri Nowlin Breshears and husband, Keith Breshears, all of Crossett; his two sons, Jay Nowlin and wife, Felicia Nowlin of Bauxite and Phillip Nowlin of Crossett; a brother, Travis Nowlin; a sister, Mary Bisswanger and husband, Jerry; four half-sisters, Liz Ward, Linda Trichell, Sharon Pierce and husband, Terry, and Teresa Nowlin; five grandchildren, Hannah Breshears, Heather Breshears Temple and husband, Josh, Tziporah Nowlin, Matthew Nowlin, and Brianna Nowlin, numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and all of his pharmacy associates throughout Southeast Arkansas.

Graveside services are 2 p.m., Saturday, March 12, 2022, in the Crossroads Cemetery with Bro. Alan Breshears and Bro. Garry Massey officiating.  Honorary pallbearers are the Men of CrossRoad Missionary Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Crossett Post 111, 807 Main Street, Crossett, AR  71635.
