John Sumner Barnes, III, 84, of Parkdale, died Wednesday, October 27, 2021, in West Monroe, Louisiana. Mr. Barnes was a native and lifelong resident of Parkdale. He was a 1955 graduate of Wilmot High School and in 1959 he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business from Arkansas A & M, now the University of Arkansas at Monticello. He started farming in 1960 in Parkdale and retired after 35 years of cotton, soybean, wheat, and corn farming. Mr. Barnes was a member of the Parkdale Baptist Church and the Barnes Deer Camp. He loved to be around people and to travel. He, his wife and several other couples traveled all over the Eastern United States in their R.V.’s.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Sumner, Jr. & Jessie Estelle Matheny Barnes.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret Tot Barger Barnes; a son, John Sumner Barnes, IV both of Parkdale and a grandson, Jeffery Aaron Barnes of Quitman.
Graveside services are 10 a.m., Saturday, October 30, 2021, in the Parkdale Cemetery with Bro. Richard Barley officiating. Visitation will be 9:45 – 10 a.m., Saturday in the Parkdale Cemetery.
