John Arthur Murdaugh, 63, of Portland died Tuesday, August 24, 2021, in Lake Village. Mr. Murdaugh was a native of Indianola, Mississippi and a resident of Portland for several years. He graduated in 1977 from Indianola Academy, was a member of the Portland Baptist Church and he worked as an Emergency Medical Technician for several years. Mr. Murdaugh was an active member of the Jackson Gamers - Miniature War Games. He would hand-pour his own lead Army men, paint them and use them when playing. He often worked the election polls and was a very kind and generous man that would give you everything he had if you needed it. All of the kids called him a “Teddy Bear”.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William O. Murdaugh, Jr. and Gladys Kimble Murdaugh.
He is survived by two brothers, William Murdaugh of Spotsylvania, Virginia and Richard Murdaugh and wife, Amanda, of Portland; a nephew, Rick Murdaugh and wife, Amanda, of Hamburg; three nieces, Ashley James and Buddy Wayne, of Portland, Laura Murdaugh of Blacksburg, Virginia and Brentley Murdaugh of Portland; three great-nephews, Cole Murdaugh and Mason Murdaugh both of Hamburg and Aiden Murphy of Ladelle and a host of cousins and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, October 11, 2021, at the Portland Baptist Church with Bro. Mark Harris officiating.
