Joe Cathey

Joe Cathey, 84, of Hamburg, died Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at the Nightingale at Stonegate Health and Rehabilitation Center in Crossett.  Mr. Cathey was born December 19, 1940 in Fordyce and was a resident of Hamburg for most of his life.  He worked for the Ashley County Road Department for many years and for the Georgia-Pacific Corporation Plywood Mill before he became disabled after having had a five bypass heart surgery in his 40's.  Mr. Cathey enjoyed riding around town and going to fish fry's.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Patricia Ann Rice Cathey in 1999; his parents, John Henry "Mack" and Minnie Dura Best Cathey; four sisters, Madge Cathey, Agnes Carver, Addie Summerland and Etta Ellingsburg and a brother, Elton Edwin Cathey.

He is survived by several brothers and sisters; a sister-in-law, Sherry Smith of Hamburg and a host of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
