Jesse “Shorty” Craig, 85, of Hamburg, died Sunday, February 2, 2020, at his home. Mr. Craig was a native and lifelong resident of the Milo Community outside of Hamburg. He worked for the Safeway Grocery Store for 25 years and the Fountain Hill Grocery Store for five years. Mr. Craig was a member of the Egypt Missionary Baptist Church. He loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his garden.
He is preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan Craig in 2005; his parents, Jesse & Allie Pogue Craig; three sisters, Betty Jean Slaughter, Margie Livingston and Rosie Williamson and a brother, James Ed Craig.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Stanley Craig of Hamburg; three sons, Stan Craig and wife, Nancy, Tony Craig and wife, Lisa, and Mickey Craig and wife, Jeanette; a brother, Jimmy Craig and wife, Annette; a sister, Joyce Ann Berry and husband, Hurley, all of Hamburg; six grandchildren, Emily Craig, Kate Craig, Haley Craig Bryan and husband, Tyler, Jessica Craig Tippen and husband, Jesse, Stephanie Craig Nolan and husband, Luke and Jess Choate; five great-grandchildren and host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 2 p.m., Wednesday, February 5, 2020, in the Egypt Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Keith Rose and Bro. Buddy Boykin officiating. Burial will be in the Egypt Cemetery. Pallbearers are Wayne Allen, Michael Jeffers, Reagan Craig, James Smith, Steve Cunningham and Terry Livingston. Honorary pallbearers are Ronnie Livingston, Ronnie Pennington, Sam Knight, John Laing, Bobby Kilcrease and L.M. Stewart. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Tuesday at the church.
