Jerry Wayne Atwood, Sr., 78, of Bastrop, Louisiana, died Friday, May 1, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Atwood was born February 12, 1948 in Wilmot, a resident of Bastrop, Louisiana since 2013 and a former resident of Laurel, Mississippi and Parkdale. Following his graduation from high school in 1967, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he proudly served his country. Mr. Atwood worked as a Control Operator for Georgia-Pacific in Laurel, Mississippi, until 2007, when declining health led to his early retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising Beagles, and tinkering with lawn mowers and four-wheelers. Above all, he cherished the time he spent with his family.
He is preceded in death by a son, Ethan Breland; his parents, Jefferson L. and Edith Gourley Atwood; and two brothers, James Jefferson Atwood and William "Bill" Atwood.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Terry Smith Atwood of Bastrop, Louisiana; two sons, Jerry "Wayne" Atwood, Jr. of Laurel, Mississippi and Jeff Atwood and his wife, Elizabeth, of Oklahoma; two daughters, Carrie Atwood Smith of Huttig and Shayna Smith of Sterlington, Louisiana; seven grandchildren, Dakota Atwood, Kylie Atwood, Colin Martin, Liam Smith, Makiah Smith, Bella Smith and Tuscany Martin, and three great-grandchildren, Creed Atwood, Easton Atwood and Brooks Matte.
Mr. Atwoods wishes were to be cremated without any services.
