Janet Riley Johnston, 72, of Crossett, died Friday, August 19, 2022, at the Ashley County Medical Center in Crossett. Mrs. Johnston was a native of Little Rock and was raised in Benton, where her father owned and operated Franke’s Bakery. She had been a resident of Crossett for the past 1 ½ years and was a former resident of St. Louis, Missouri and Atlanta, Georgia. After graduating from Benton High School in 1967, she continued her education at the University of Arkansas with a Bachelor of Arts, English degree, the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Science, Business Administration degree, Southern Methodist University with a Master of Arts, Banking and Finance degree and Southwest Graduate School of Banking. Mrs. Johnston held various positions for Bank of America in St. Louis, having worked in Banking Operations and Information Technology for 23 years as a Bank President, Bank Vice President, Auditor, and Mortgage Loan Officer. In addition, for seven years, she was an Information Technology Management Consultant. She enjoyed outdoor activities, learned hunting and fishing from her father, camping on Lake Ouachita, and had a great love for dogs, having grown up with her father’s bird dogs. Mrs. Johnston often stated that her “happy place” was time spent with family and the homeplace in Ashley County. She was kind, generous, and always willing to help someone in need.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth H. and Laverne Lucas Riley.
She is survived by three sons, Tim Guberman of St. Louis, Missouri, Kenneth “Todd” Guberman of Florida and 2nd Lieutenant, Douglas Guberman, United States Air Force, of Tamuning, Guam.
