James Ernest Cokley Obituary

James Ernest Cokley, 52, of Portland, died Sunday, November 10, 2024 at his residence.  Mr. Cokley was born in Greenville, Mississippi, was a lifelong resident of Portland and a 1991 graduate of Hamburg High School.  He was a Logger, a member of the Portland United Methodist Church, a Mason and a member of the Portland Masonic Lodge.  Mr. Cokley enjoyed hunting and watching the boys on the farm.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Boyd Cokley, Jr. and Beverly Jane Gay Stephenson and his grandparents, James Gay, Betty Gay Shuler, Ernest Boyd Cokley, Sr. and Juanita Hawkins Cokley.

He is survived by two sisters, Jennifer Hill and husband, Dea, of Portland and Lesli Mims of Buda, Texas; two nephews, Max Hill and wife, Danielle, and James Hill and wife, Ashley, all of Portland; a niece, Lotti Mims of Buda, Texas; three great-nephews, Wyatt Hill, Heath Hill and Jackson Hill; one great-niece, Harper Hill, all of Portland; an aunt, Beverly Cokley of Dermott; a cousin, Cody Gay of Artesia, New Mexico; and his constant companion, Daisy.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m., Thursday, November 14, 2024 at the Portland United Methodist Church with Rev. Aaron Miller officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Trey Moyers, Greg Moyers, Mark Pennington, Doug Tullos, Les Tullos and John Bostick.  Memorial donations may be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital, ATTN: Office of Philanthropy, PO Box 1525, Ranson, West Virginia  25438.  The family will be receiving friends at the home of Dea and Jennifer Hill, 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, November 13, 2024.
