Harold “Sonny” Holland, Jr., 71, of Hamburg, died Sunday, June 21, 2020 in Crossett. Sonny was a native and lifelong resident of Hamburg, a 1967 graduate of Hamburg High School and a 1972 graduate of Arkansas A&M, now the University of Arkansas at Monticello. He was part-owner and worked at the family-owned NAPA Store in Hamburg for 48 ½ years, and was a member of the First Baptist Church. Sonny was the voice of Hamburg Lion Football for over 20 years, and truly enjoyed announcing for both the High School and Junior High School football games on Thursday and Friday nights. He coached summer league baseball for many years, was an avid fisherman and hunter and a member of the Cottonwood Hunting Club. Sonny was a family man who loved his family dearly. He enjoyed spending time with them and participating in all of his families’ activities.
He is preceded in death by his father, Harold C. Holland, Sr., in 1999.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Susan Boykin Holland of Hamburg; a daughter, Jessica Patoka and husband, Michael, of Star City; two sons, Harold “Trey” Holland, III and wife, Kerry, of Hamburg and Richard Martin of Crestview, Florida; a daughter-in-law, Andrea Martin of McGehee; his mother, Peggy Rose Newson Holland; a brother, Dennis F. Holland, Sr., and wife, Sonja; a sister, Debbie Ladd all of Hamburg; three grandchildren, Jacie Martin, Annslee Martin and Anchor Collins; six nephews and one niece.
Graveside services are 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 24, 2020, in the Hamburg Cemetery with Dr. Bobby Pennington officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Chuck White, Dusty Stanley, Bobby Griffin, Al Harrison, and the members of the Cottonwood Hunting Club. Memorials may be made to the Hamburg High School Honors Scholarship Program, PO Box 30, Hamburg, AR 71646, or to the Hamburg Booster Club, PO Box 517, Hamburg, AR 71646.
Visitation will be 9:45-10 a.m., Wednesday at the Cemetery.
