Gladys Martin Gulledge, 74, of Hamburg, died Friday, September 26, 2025, at her residence. Mrs. Gulledge was born October 19, 1950 in Monticello and has always called Hamburg her home. She spent her life in cheerful service to others, from cleaning, to babysitting, to calling and checking on everyone under her care and was in constant prayer for their well being and success. Mrs. Gulledge was rooted in family and God and you were not in her presence without getting quizzed on where you were going to church and if not, why? She lived her life as a reflection of God’s love, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and compassion in every step she took. Though she was blessed to witness some of the seeds she sowed grow and flourish, countless more lives were touched in ways she could never have imagined. They say it takes a village to raise a child and Mrs. Gulledge raised a village of children and as a devoted and faithful member of Martinville Baptist Church, if you were in her care, you went too. There’s a children’s song that says “Jesus loves the little children”, well, "Mammaw" as she was lovingly known, gave Him a good race on who loved them more. She was Mom to many and Mammaw to even more, raising not only her kids, but generations. She never spared the rod but always spoiled the child and she always held incredible tenderness (if you know you know) behind her switch.
She is preceded in death by her father and mother, James H. "Woodie" Martin and Dorothy Callaway Martin; a sister, Dorothy Jean Savage; four brothers, Jimmy Martin, Thomas R. "Joe" Martin, Freddie Martin and James Earl "Sonny" Martin; three bothers-in-law, Gene Bates, Lyance "Bo" Savage, and Bobby Gulledge; a sister-in-law, Pat Martin and two nephews, Brad Martin and Micheal Collins, joining them to a heavenly reunion celebration.
Her legacy lives on through her husband of 56 years, Edward Gulledge; her two children Paul Gulledge and his wife, Jennifer, and Pam Hudson and her husband, Larry; her sister, Judy Bates; two brothers, Bobby Martin and his wife, Sylvia, and Randy Martin; her three grandchildren, Zach Pamplin, Haven Gulledge, and Xander Gulledge; and six sisters-in-law, Joy Martin, Charlene Martin, Debbie Martin, Mary Norrell and her husband, Jimmy, Claudia Kinnaird and Clara Wood. Her love continues through those she helped raise including, Snuggle Love, Ole Buddy, Big Man, Lil Man, Pumpkin, Lil Rascal, Lil Bear Bear, Pebbles, Honey Badger, Tuffers and Clay. As well as the older nieces and nephews that knew her switch bush in the backyard before she became the mellow Mammaw that all those above knew.
Funeral services are 2 p.m., Sunday, September 28, 2025, at the Martinville Baptist Church with Bro. Ryan McRae and Bro Clayton Hales officiating. Burial will be in the Hamburg Cemetery. Pallbearers are John Martin, Neil Martin, Nick Martin, Buzzy Savage, Barry Savage and Jeff Norrell. Memorials may be made to Martinville Baptist Church, c/o Barry Savage, 129 Wright Street, Hamburg, AR 71646.
