Gale Leslie Hill, 79, of Hamburg, died Friday, February 14, 2020, at his residence. Mr. Hill was a native and lifelong resident of Hamburg and a 1958 graduate of Hamburg High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of the First Baptist Church. Mr. Hill worked for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 30 years, having retired in 1996. He served on the Ashley County Fair Board and helped start the Girls Softball program in Hamburg. Mr. Hill was an outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved his family, and his family was very important to him. He enjoyed following his grandchildren in all of their activities.
He is preceded in death by his wives, Margaret L. Hill in 2003 and Betty Carpenter Hill in 2013; a grandson, Colby Callaway and his parents, Leslie E. & Vivian Agnes Stell Hill.
He is survived by three daughters, Tami Hill Byers, Dana Hill Callaway and husband, Todd, and Leslie Hill Outlaw and husband, Tim; two sisters, Gursta McDonald and husband, Billy, and Debra Wood all of Hamburg; his aunt, Margaret Hill Smith of Crossett; five grandchildren, Kelbe Callaway, Conner Callaway, Kolten Hodge, Mallori Outlaw Thompson and husband, Tyler, and Maci Outlaw.
Funeral services are 10 a.m, Tuesday, February 18, 2020, in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ty Danielson and Dr. Bobby Pennington officiating. Burial will be in the Hamburg Cemetery with Military Honors. Pallbearers are Teddy Hickman, David Johnston, Charles Stell, Glen Stell, Todd Outlaw, Ben Outlaw, David White and Charles Farmer. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.
