Frederick D. Hollis Obituary

Frederick D. Hollis, 81, of Hamburg, died Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at his home. Mr. Hollis was a native of Ashley County, a lifelong resident of the Milo Community outside of Hamburg and a 1961 graduate of Hamburg High School.  He worked with the Utilities Department in the Boiler Room at the Georgia-Pacific Corporation for 42 years, having retired in 2006. Mr. Hollis was a member of the Mount Pleasant Free Will Baptist Church, where he was the song director for many years. He loved his church family dearly, but most of all, he loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Mr. Hollis was well known for his large vegetable gardens and his generosity in giving from his gardens to his friends and neighbors. He enjoyed being outdoors year-round, either crappie fishing, deer hunting or his favorite, turkey hunting. He was well thought of and respected in his community and loved by many.

He is preceded in death by his father, Thedford Hollis.

He is survived by the love of his life of 48 years, Mary Janice Cox Hollis of Hamburg; a son, Gene Hollis of Rison; a daughter, Tina Hollis of Pine Bluff; his mother, June Noble Hollis; two brothers, Tommy Hollis and wife, Gwen, and David Hollis and wife, Judi; a sister, Jane Childers and husband, Steve, all of Hamburg; two grandchildren, Haley Bryan and Sarah Lovett; a great-granddaughter, Judith and a host of nieces and nephews.
