Frank Charles Skender, 84, of Crossett, died Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at his home. Mr. Skender was a native of Parkdale and a former resident of Tyler, Texas for 14 years before moving to Crossett in 1974. Mr. Skender graduated from Wilmot High School in 1956 and attended Tyler Junior College in Tyler, Texas. He worked at the Tri-State Mill Supply in Crossett, the Western Foundry in Tyler, Texas, and retired as a Maintenance Supervisor for the Georgia-Pacific Corporation in 1995. He was a great mechanic and could work on anything. Mr. Skender was a Christian and of the Baptist faith, having been baptized at the Parkdale Baptist Church when he was 12, a member of the Grace Christian Fellowship in Crossett and a former member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Tyler, Texas. While Mr. Skender enjoyed bass fishing and making nets to fish for buffalo and catfish, deer hunting was his favorite. In his later years, he enjoyed riding in his red truck, socializing, and smoking and drinking coffee. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Opal Gulledge Skender; a brother, Richard Skender, and a sister, Bobbie Jean Golden.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Peggy Johnson Skender of Crossett; a daughter, Cynthia Brantley of Rogers; a son, Gary Skender of Hamburg; four brothers, Paul Skender and wife, Darlene, of Crossett, James Skender of Hallsville, Texas, Jim Skender and wife, Brenda, of Hamburg and Johnny Burt Skender of Tyler, Texas; six grandchildren, Candace Cochran of Benton, Derek Skender of Crossett, Dylan Brantley of Bentonville, Frank Skender, Caroline Skender and Jessica Skender all of Yulee, Florida; five great-grandchildren, Bradyn, Parker, Caiden, Piper and Chloe and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 2 p.m., Friday, January 27, 2023, in the Chapel of Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home with Bro. Robin Allen officiating. Burial will be in the Parkdale Cemetery. Pallbearers are Derek Skender, Dylan Brantley, James Skender, Johnny Burt Skender, Paul Skender, and Jim Skender. Memorials may be made to the North Crossett First Baptist Church, 1035 Highway 133 N., Crossett, AR 71635 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Visitation will be 1 – 2 p.m., Friday in the funeral home chapel.
