Frances Hagood Meredith, 80, of Hamburg, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her loved ones. She is now in the arms of her Savior, whom she had known and trusted for 60 years. Mrs. Meredith was born September 23, 1945 in Crossett and was a resident of Hamburg for the past 34 years. She graduated from Crossett High School in 1963 and continued her education with an Associates Degree from the Missionary Baptist Seminary in Little Rock. Mrs. Meredith later graduated from the East Arkansas Community College in Forrest City in 1989 with an Associates Degree in Education, Arkansas State University in Jonesboro in 1991, where she earned her Bachelors of Science in Education Degree, and in 1998, she received her Masters Degree in Education from the University of Arkansas at Monticello. A teacher through and through, Mrs. Meredith spent many years writing church literature before becoming an 8th grade American History teacher at Hamburg Middle School, where she truly found her calling and passion. She loved her students deeply and missed being in the classroom when her cancer treatments became too taxing. Mrs. Meredith bravely battled cancer for 23 years, and God ultimately granted her complete healing and victory. She was a faithful member of Pleasant Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Monticello. Mrs. Meredith enjoyed reading, camping, hunting, fishing, crafting, trips to Hobby Lobby, and watching Texas Rangers baseball. Above all, she was a devoted and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John Thomas "Tom" Hagood, Jr. and Lillian Agnes Henderson Hagood and a sister-in-law, Vickki Hagood.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Joel Clyde Meredith of Hamburg; three daughters, Denise Smitty and her husband, Dwight, of Crossett, Nancy Campbell and her husband, Jr., of Hamburg and Allison Dobbins and her husband, J.W., of Crossett; two brothers, Allen Hagood and his wife, Mackie, of Bryant and Troy Hagood of Hamburg; nine grandchildren, Trey Campbell and his wife, Hagan, Joel Campbell and his wife, Hannah, Haley Smitty (Josh Day), Savannah Childers and her husband, Jonathan, Meredith Wilson and her husband, Bryce, Blake Smitty (Brier Smith), Hannah Dobbins, John Dobbins and Zachary Dobbins; 10 great-grandchildren that she adored and a host of nieces and nephews that she loved like her own.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Mariann Harrington at CARTI in Little Rock for all of the love, support and excellent care for the past 23 years.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, December 28, 2025, at the Calvary Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Jared Conatser and Bro. Allen Hagood officiating. Burial will be in the Crossroads Cemetery. Pallbearers are Trey Campbell, Joel Campbell, Mark Hooks, Tony Rodgers, Job Rodgers and Alex Rodgers. Honorary pallbearers are her sons-in-law, Jr. Campbell, J.W. Dobbins and Dwight Smitty. Memorials may be made to the World Wide Literature and Missionary Supply, PO Box 128, Hamburg, AR 71646.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Saturday at the funeral home.
