Florence Sweeney Craig, 95, of Hamburg, died Sunday, March 15, 2026 at her residence. Mrs. Craig was born September 22, 1930 in Ashley County, a lifelong resident of the Milo Community outside of Hamburg and the Salutatorian of her 1948 Class at Hamburg High School. Mrs. Craig loved the Lord and learning all about Him. She was a faithful member of the Egypt Missionary Baptist Church where she taught the ladies auxiliary. She was a charter member of the Milo Riding Club and served as the Secretary/Treasurer for many years and enjoyed following her kids and grandkids to where ever they were riding. Mrs. Craig had a special talent for embroidery and quilting, was a member of the Extension Homemakers Club and she worked with the Ashley County Fair Board. She was a member of the Widow Women's Club, where they would get together, have a meal and work on making beautiful quilts to raise money for the up keep of the Milo Community Building. Above all things, she loved being a devoted homemaker to her family and spending time with them, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James Edward "Ed" Craig in 2002; a great-great-grandchild, Lottie White; her parents, John and Rena Streeter Sweeney; an infant brother, James Sweeney; a sister, Louise Coody and a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Craig.
She is survived by a son, John Craig; a daughter, Nancy Smith and her husband, James, all of Hamburg; four grandchildren, Shawn Craig and his wife, Rebecca, Shannon Craig and Brent Thornhill, Beverly Ward and her husband, Stephen, Shelly Pankey and her husband, Dustin; five great-grandchildren, Zach Craig and his wife, Stephanie, Isabella Craig, Rena White and her husband, Daniel, Allie Pleasant and her husband, Bradley and Toby McDougald; nine great-great-grandchildren, Canyon Craig, Waylon Craig, Logan Craig, Wells White, Sabbath White, Sutton Joy White, C.J Elmore Hall, Sophie McDougald and arriving in June, Bellamy Kate White; a special nephew, James Coody and his wife, Sharon, and a host of nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at the Egypt Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Daniel White, Bro. Keith Rose and Dustin Pankey officiating. Burial will be in the Egypt Cemetery. Pallbearers are Frank Moffatt, Jr. Jeffers, Stan Craig, Hardy Sawyer, Robert Mattson and Tony Craig. Honorary pallbearers are Mickey Craig, Terry Livingston, James Coody, Travis Berry and Mike Berry.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Tuesday at the church.
