Evora Claiborne Parker Obituary

Evora Claiborne- Parker, 87, of Tyler, Texas, formerly of Parkdale, was born July 19, 1933, to the late Lushion and Janie Bozeman-Claiborne. On July 3, 2021, she transitioned from labor to reward. Ms. Parker was a native of Parkdale and a resident of Tyler, Texas for the past two and a half years. She taught in the Hamburg School District for over 35 years, starting out at Savage Junior High, which later changed to Parkdale Elementary. Ms. Parker served her community as an alderwoman for several years, and in her spare time, she continued to teach assisting several citizens to read. Ms. Parker began her Christian life at Childress Chapel A.M. E. Church and when Childress closed its doors, she attended Shady Grove in Wilmot. After moving to Tyler, Texas, she became a member of the Greater True Light Baptist Church, where she remained until her departure. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Herman Parker in 2009, her mother, Janie Bozeman-Claiborne, her father, Lushion Claiborne, a sister, Fannie Mae Watkins, and a brother, Lushion Claiborne, Jr.

Ms. Parker leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, Deborah Runnels and husband, John, of Tyler, Texas, Carolyn Parker and Roshonda Wood and husband, Fred, all of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Evelyn Claiborne and Lucille Anthony both of Chicago, Illinois; three grandchildren, Courtney Liggins and wife, Christina, of Miami, Florida, Robert Liggins, Jr. and wife, Camille, of St. Louis, Missouri and Abeje Paris of Dallas, Texas; nine great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, a special friend and caregiver, Janice Faye Lolla and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services are 2 p.m., Saturday, July 10, 2021, at the Union Baptist Church with Rev. John A. Runnels officiating.  Burial will be in the Childress Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers are Leroy Smith, Randy Smith, Jesse Packer, David Smith, Maury Coleman and Abayomi Ajene. Honorary pallbearers are Courtney T. Liggins, Robert L. Liggins, Jr., Ronald Claiborne and Fred Wood.
