Ethyl Amelia Shell, 96, of Hamburg, died Friday, January 1, 2021. Mrs. Shell was a native and a resident of Hamburg for most of her life. She was a homemaker and worked for Ashley Chicot Electric Cooperative for 27 years. Mrs. Shell was an active member of the First Baptist Church, where she was the oldest living member. She was involved in the Women Missionary Union, and taught Sunday school in the Children’s Department for many years.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack H. Shell, Sr., in 1950; her parents, Barton “Bart” & Amelia Farrar Smith; a sister, Dell Aultman, and a brother, Edwin Smith.
She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn McGilton and husband, Noel Dean, of Hamburg and Jacolyn Goodwin and husband, Jimmy, of Crossett; two sons, Jack Shell, Jr., and wife, Kathryn, of Hamburg and James R. Shell and wife, Patricia, of Berryville; seven grandchildren, Kevin McGilton, Chris McGilton, Amanda Goodwin Feeser, Boyett Goodwin, Kayla Shell, Farrah Shell and Jim Bob Shell, 17 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, 3 nieces and 1 nephew.
A private funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Sunday, January 3, 2021 in the Jones-Hartshorn Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Bobby Pennington officiating. Burial was in the Hamburg Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, PO Box 352, Hamburg, AR 71646.
