Eddie Ray Hughes, 78, of Crossett, died Saturday, February 5, 2022, at his home. Mr. Hughes was a native and lifelong resident of Crossett, a 1962 graduate of Crossett High School, and a member of the Army National Guard of Arkansas. He worked for the Georgia-Pacific Paper Mill for over 40 years, having retired in 2007. Mr. Hughes was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Crossett Masonic Lodge and a member of the South Crossett Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed helping others, hunting, tinkering and could fix anything. While he was always full of pranks and jokes, he loved spending time with his family and will be greatly missed by all.
He is preceded in death by his parents Edwin and Maxine Bigham Hughes and a brother, Robert Hughes.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carolyn Phillips Hughes; a son, Matt Hughes and wife, Deana; a daughter, Christie Hughes Rice and husband, Michael, all of Crossett; a sister, Marylin Dumas of Calhoun, Louisiana; six grandchildren, Hannah Eyman and husband, Jordan, Nicholas Rice, Caroline Rice, Bud Blakeley and wife, Sarah, Rhiannon Streeter and husband, Joey and Camryn Hughes; four great-grandchildren, Paisley Brockwell, Layla Blakeley, Gus Streeter and Hank Eyman.
Funeral services are 2 p.m., Monday, February 7, 2022, at the South Crossett Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Barry Carter and Bro. Chris Sexton officiating. Burial will be in the Hickory Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers are Bud Blakeley, Joey Streeter, Nicholas Rice, Michael Rice, Jim Bigham, and Russell Dumas. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Goodwin, Bobby Miller, Billy Miller, Truman Hicks, Bruce Martin, Jordan Eyman and James Williams. The family would like to thank Hospice Home Care of Monticello for the love and care shown to Mr. Hughes during his illness. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
